Muse vs. a VA vs. an AI Agent: Who Should Run Your Facebook Marketplace Listings?
Meta's Muse, a virtual assistant, or an AI agent: which one should post, renew, reply to and follow up on your Facebook Marketplace listings? A simple side-by-side on cost, hours and control, with real data on when buyers message.
- A VA is great at phone calls and judgment. But a 9-to-5 VA misses about 6 in 10 buyer messages, and full-time costs $1,700 to $4,500 a month.
- Muse is free and can list items and negotiate. But it has broken sellers' rules, and we found no sign it renews listings or follows up.
- An AI agent like GetReplyNow keeps your listings in sync with your real inventory (posts, renews, removes sold items), replies day and night, and follows up, for $49.90 to $99.90 a month. It hands buyers to you when it's time to talk.
The short answer
If you sell a few things a month, Muse is enough. Just make it ask you before it does anything.
If Marketplace is how you make money, use an AI agent for the busy work and keep a human for the calls and the deal. That human can be you, or a part-time VA.
A full-time VA alone is the most expensive option, and still misses most of your buyers.
The job: what "running your listings" means
Selling on Marketplace is six jobs, not one:
- Post new listings
- Keep listings up to date: renew them, fix prices
- Remove items that sold
- Reply to every buyer, fast
- Follow up with buyers who went quiet
- Hand over the serious buyers so you can close
Most sellers only think about #4. But the money leaks from all six.
Meta knows your listings. It doesn't keep them up to date.
Facebook knows what's posted on Marketplace. It doesn't know what happens off Facebook:
- A car sells on the lot on Saturday. The listing stays up, and buyers keep asking about a car you no longer have.
- You drop the price on your website. Marketplace still shows the old price.
- A listing goes quiet after a week or two. Nobody renews it, so it slides down and stops getting messages.
Every one of these costs you: wasted chats, annoyed buyers, fewer views. And Muse can't fix what Facebook can't see. It only knows your Marketplace listings, not your real inventory.
Renewing at the right time matters, too. In our data, renewing a listing that had gone quiet brought new buyer messages. Renewing one that was still busy didn't help.
That's why we built GetReplyNow as an AI agent for Marketplace, not just a chatbot. It connects to your real inventory (your website, a spreadsheet, or ShowMojo for rentals) and keeps Facebook in sync:
- New item in your inventory? It posts it.
- Item sold? It takes the listing down.
- Listing gone quiet? It renews it.
- Price changed? Update it once from your dashboard, not listing by listing on Facebook.
Muse vs. a VA vs. an AI agent, side by side

| Muse (Meta) | Virtual assistant | GetReplyNow (AI agent) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Posts your listings | Yes | Yes, by hand | Yes, from your inventory |
| Keeps listings in sync | Not shown | Yes, by hand | Yes: renews, updates prices, removes sold |
| Replies to buyers | Yes | During their shift | Day and night, in about a minute |
| Works when your computer is off | Yes, runs in Meta's cloud | Yes | Yes, with our cloud version |
| Follows up quiet buyers | Not shown | If they remember | Yes, only the ones worth chasing |
| Sticks to your rules | Has broken them | Yes | Yes, rules for every listing |
| Phone calls and judgment | No | Yes | No, it hands buyers to you |
| Cost per month | Free to $100 | About $1,700 to $4,500 | $49.90 to $99.90 (cloud extra) |
"Not shown" means we couldn't find Meta or anyone else saying Muse does it.
When buyers actually message
This is the part most people miss when they hire a VA.

Based on our data, about 6 in 10 buyer messages arrive outside a weekday 9-to-5. Evenings are busy right up to 10pm, and about 1 in 4 messages come on the weekend.
That's when people are home, off work, and scrolling.
A VA on a 9-to-5 shift sees those messages the next morning. By then, many buyers have already messaged the next seller. And a buyer who goes quiet is hard to win back: about half of Marketplace buyers go quiet after the first reply, even when you answer within a minute.
What each option costs
A virtual assistant: VA agencies for car dealers advertise from about $10 an hour. The US average is about $26 an hour. Full-time, that's roughly $1,700 to $4,500 a month, for one shift.
To cover evenings and weekends, you'd need a second person.
Muse: free to start, with paid plans at $20 and $100 a month. It's US-only for now.
GetReplyNow: $49.90 a month for replies, follow-ups and up to 5 new posts a day. $99.90 a month for unlimited posting. See pricing.
Where a VA still wins
To be fair, a person beats any AI at some things:
- Phone calls. Many car buyers want to talk before they drive over.
- Judgment. A weird trade-in, a buyer who seems off, a deal that needs a yes or no.
- In-person work. Showings, test drives, handing over keys.
That's why we don't think the answer is "AI instead of people." It's AI for the busy work, people for the deal.
Where Muse fits
Muse is free, built into Meta, and can list items and negotiate for you. For selling an old couch, that's great.
But Muse acts on its own once you let it. In September it sold a seller's keyboard below his price, shared his street address, and told a buyer "Yep I'm here!" while he had no idea. (What happened, and how to use Muse safely.)
And we found no sign it renews listings, removes sold items, or follows up with quiet buyers. Those jobs are where a busy seller loses the most.
Which one should you pick?
- You sell a few things a month: Muse or Meta AI. Set Muse to ask you before every reply.
- You sell every day (cars, rentals, lots of items): an AI agent for posting, replies and follow-ups. You take the calls.
- You have a team and lots of phone calls: an AI agent plus a part-time VA for calls. Don't pay a person to type "Yes, it's still available" at 11pm.
How GetReplyNow runs your listings
GetReplyNow is an AI agent for Facebook Marketplace. It does the six jobs above:
- Posts listings from your inventory, website or spreadsheet, at a safe daily pace.
- Keeps your listings in sync with your inventory: renews quiet listings, updates prices, and takes down items that sold.
- Replies to every buyer in about a minute, day or night, using only facts you wrote down. It never makes up a price.
- Follows up with quiet buyers, but only the ones worth chasing. A follow-up brings back up to 1 in 3 of them.
- Finds your hot leads using your own definition, and emails you the full conversation.
- Hands the buyer to you when it's time to call, meet or close. It only books a time if you've connected your own booking calendar.
It runs on your own Facebook account, either in Chrome on your computer or in our cloud version, which keeps working with your computer off.
